
Paul Garner, PhD, University of Birmingham, United Kingdom
Paul has an international reputation for research and applied interventions in coach development. His research primarily focuses on the relational element of coaching, supporting coaches and coach educators with their intra- and inter- personal knowledge, culture development and leadership. Having represented Great Britain as a member of the British Alpine Skiing Demonstration Team, he has worked extensively in snow sports as a performer, coach, coach developer and assessor. Paul continues to work closely with a number of governing bodies including British Association of Snowsport Instructors, British Equestrian Federation, GB Rowing, Table Tennis England, PGA, England Lacrosse, to drive excellence in coach education, development and assessment across the coaching landscape.

Pete Allison, PhD, Pennsylvania State University, United States of America
Pete Allison is an Associate Professor of values and experiential learning in the College of Health and Human Development at The Pennsylvania State University. Pete has worked with the British Association of Snowsport Instructors (BASI) and currently works with the Professional Ski Instructors of America – American Association Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI). He has developed three online certificate programs in Professional Snowsports Education, Leadership and Management in partnership with PSIA-AASI and is particularly focused on enhancing the quality of teaching and learning in snowsports.
Pete is the Vice President of the International Association of Education and Science in Snowsports (IAESS). He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, the Explorers Club of New York, British Exploring Society, Young Explorers Trust and the Higher Education Academy.

Dieter Bubeck, PhD, University of Stuttgart, Germany
Dieter Bubeck is a lecturer at the Institute of Sports- and Exercise Science, University of Stuttgart. He holds a degree in Sports Science and a PhD in Biomechanics and Performance Diagnostics. His research focuses on neuromuscular performance, training optimization in elite sports, and the application of biomechanical methods in handball, team sports, and winter sports. Dieter Bubeck is actively engaged in the international snowsports community as a member of the International Association for Education and Science in snowsport (IAESS), where he contributes expertise in optimizing education and teaching processes in Snowsports. He collaborates with national and international sports organizations on interdisciplinary projects involving sports medicine, movement analysis, systems. Dieter Bubeck teaches in the B.Sc. and M.Sc. programs in Sports Science and lectures in biomechanics, training science, and applied diagnostics. He serves as a reviewer for scientific journals in sports biomechanics and advises on performance development in professional and competitive sports.

Andrew Horrell, PhD, Director of Learning and Teaching, The Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom
Andrew Horrell is a senior lecturer in Physical Education at the Moray House School of Education and Sport. He has over 20 years of experience in higher education and teaches on the MA (Hons) Physical Education programme and on other degree programmes in the School. He has expertise in curriculum and pedagogy, qualitative methods and curriculum design. Before becoming a lecturer, Andrew worked in secondary schools as a physical education teacher. His current research interests include: curriculum development and enactment; the lives and careers of physical education teachers; and initial teacher education. Andrew has been working with the British Association of Snowsport Instructors for over 10 years on a curriculum development and enhancement project. This project uses the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) to credit-rate BASI courses, provide oversight of assessment, quality assurance and innovation. MSc Vanessa Mann, University of Rostock, Germany
Vanessa Mann, M.Ed., is a research assistant at the University of Rostock, in the Department of Sport Science, where she is pursuing her PhD in the field of exercise physiology. Her research focuses on the effects of sex and age on cerebrovascular function, with particular interest to understanding the protective effects of physical exercise and hormonal status on the human brain across healthy ageing. In addition to her academic role, Vanessa serves as Secretary General of the International Association of Education and Science in Snowsports (IAESS), the global body advancing research, education, and practice in snowsport instruction and coaching. In her work with IAESS she supports international collaboration across snowsport education networks and contributes to scientific evaluation and certification initiatives in alpine snowsport projects. A certified ski instructor and lifelong athlete, Vanessa combines academic expertise with practical experience in snowsports education and development.

Kaja Teraž, PhD, Science and Research Centre Koper, Slovenia
Kaja Teraž, PhD, is an Assistant Professor and Research Fellow at the Institute for Kinesiology Research, ZRS Koper, and a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Trieste (2024–2026). Her research focuses on nutrition, body composition, and sports nutrition, with particular emphasis on ageing, sarcopenia, and lifestyle determinants investigated through longitudinal and interdisciplinary studies. Dr Teraž holds a PhD in Kinesiology from the University of Ljubljana, along with master’s degrees in Kinesiology and Dietetics from the University of Primorska, and a bachelor’s degree in food science and technology from the University of Ljubljana. Her core expertise includes: human movement, body composition and nutritional assessment, ageing and sarcopenia metrics, and sports nutrition. She has authored and co-authored over 75 international publications, including 17 original scientific articles, with more than 100 citations and an H-index of 7. Since 2025, she has also been a lecturer in the master’s programme Kinesiology of Human Performance at Euro-Mediterranean University. Actively engaged in national and international collaborations, including ERASMUS+ and Horizon 2020 projects (EWAS, SKI EASY, and XBrainNet), she has also contributed as a lecturer within the EWAS project and IAESS webinars on the topic “Athletes’ Nutrition for Winter Sports.”

Uroš Marušič, PhD, Science and Research Centre Koper, Slovenia
Uroš Marušič is currently employed as a Senior Research Associate at the Science and Research Centre Koper and as a Full Professor at Alma Mater Europaea University. He graduated in Biomedical Engineering (Cybernetics in Medicine) from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana in 2011 and obtained his PhD in Applied Kinesiology from the University of Primorska in 2015. He has authored over 80 original and review scientific publications indexed in PubMed. He is currently leading the Horizon Europe project TBrainBoost (ID: 101120150), with a total budget of 2 million €.

Mr David Schuiling, Director of Education for the Professional Ski Instructors of America and American Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI), United States of America
David Schuiling is a global education strategist and association executive specializing in professional standards and credentialing system design in snowsports education. His work is grounded in elite teaching practice—early in his career he was the most requested instructor at Telluride Ski & Snowboard School and earned Colorado Ski Country USA’s Instructor of the Year Award. He currently serves as Director of Education, Professional Development & Credentialing for PSIA-AASI, where he has led national initiatives to unify curriculum, assessment, and certification systems for more than 34,000 instructors. His contributions to professional learning and credentialing have been recognized with the PSIA-AASI Educational Excellence Award, one of the organization’s highest lifetime honors. He is an Executive Board Member of the International Association of Education in Science and Snowsports (IAESS) and a member of the ISIA Technical Commission, contributing to international certification standards and representing the United States at three Interski Congresses.

Mr Sandi Murovec, Head of International Cooperation at ZUTS SZS, Slovenia
Sandi Murovec (SLO) is an individual demonstrator of Samuel Kolega (CRO), who possesses extensive international expertise in alpine skiing education and high-performance sport. Mr Murovec is a member of the Expert Council of the Ski Association of Slovenia (SZS) and serves as Head of the National Competitive Skiing Programme (NPTS). He works as an expert advisor to the national team selections of the SZS and leads international cooperation at ZUTS Slovenia. At the international level, he is a board member of the International Ski Instructors Association (ISIA) and a member of its Technical Committee. He is the author of the UPS system, a ski-learning methodology based on progressive ski-length extension. Mr Murovec has acted as the individual demonstrator for Tina Maze (SLO) and collaborated with Team to aMaze, as well as serving as an individual demonstrator and coach to Nika Fleiss (CRO). He is a former long-standing member and former long-standing head of the Slovenian Demonstration Team and has represented his profession as a member of the INTERSKI team on nine occasions (1991, 1995, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023).

Hannes Rottensteiner, Centre for Sport Science and University Sports, Department of Sport and Human Movement Science, University of Wiena, AUT
Hannes Rottensteiner is a qualified sports scientist and a state-certified ski instructor, ski guide and mountain guide with more than 30 years of professional experience in alpine skiing. His career is characterized by the close integration of high-level practical expertise, instructor education, and academic teaching.
He has taught at Austria’s leading ski and sports academies, including the Federal Ski Academy St. Christoph and the Federal Sports Academy Innsbruck and Vienna, and contributed to the development of the Austrian Ski Instructor Training Curriculum. In addition to his work in Austria, he spent several seasons as an Austrian ski demonstrator in Japan, supporting training camps for instructors and young competitive ski racers.
Rottensteiner has held various senior leadership roles in alpine ski education and, since 2012, has been responsible for the university course Alpine Skiing at the University of Vienna. His teaching focuses on the reflective integration of theory, practice, safety, and teaching methodology, drawing strongly on his extensive experience as a mountain guide and o-piste instructor.
